Musk is officially dropped from DOGE after wrapping the work rationalizing the Government

Elon Musk begins the process of abandoning his role as head of the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE).

It was officially hired as “Special Government Employee”, which is a congress created in 1962 that allows the executive or legislative branch to hire temporary employees for short -term specific initiatives.

Special Government employees can work for the federal government for “not more than 130 days in a period of 365 days”, according to data from the Government Ethics Office. The 130 -day period of Musk, starting on the opening day, was dry on May 30.

DOGE is a departmental temporary organization that established itself to reduce and speed up the federal government. The group itself will be dissolved on July 4, 2026, according to the executive order of Trump.

Musk and Trump have previously prevented that Musk’s role was temporary and ending in spring.

Trump suggested Musk’s departure in the media comments on March 31, when asked if he wants Musk to remain in government role for longer than 130 predetermined days.

“I think it’s amazing. But I also think he has a great running company,” Trump said in March. “And at some point, he will again.”

“He would always hold him to keep him,” said Trump. “He is a very talented boy. You know, I love very smart people. He is very smart. And he has done a good job,” added the president. “DOGE is, we have found numbers that no one can believe.”

More recently, Musk said during a call from Tesla’s earnings on April 22 that he will take a step back from his work as DOGE leader.

“I think I probably start next month, May, my time assignment to DOGE will go down significantly,” Musk said during the Tesla Results Conference. “I will have to continue to do so, I think, the rest of the president’s term only to ensure that the waste and the fraud we stopped do not go around again, which will do if he has the opportunity. So I think I will continue to spend, you know, one day or two per week in the field of government during the time the President would like to do it and whenever it is useful.”

“But from next month,” he added, “I will allocate my time to Tesla much more now that the main work of establishing the Government Efficiency Department is done.”
