Merz’s office confirmed on Saturday that the Chancellor will travel to Washington on Wednesday evening before meeting with Trump on Thursday, reported Politico.
The two are planned to discuss the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and commercial policies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Merz in Germany last week, while the two European leaders eliminated an agreement for Germany to strengthen their support from Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, Thursday’s meeting will be followed by a lunch and press conference.
Merz and Trump have previously spoken on the phone, but have not met face -to -face since Merz was elected leader of Germany in May.
